Established in 2015 by brothers Stefan and Erik Mortveit, STERIK'S is built upon an unmatched love for freestyle. Founded on the principals of grit and determination, STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard team is designed to assist our team members in developing passion, not ego.
STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team is a mentorship program which accommodates enthusiastic freestyle skiers and snowboarders looking to achieve their highest potential. Whether their focus is to form strong friendships, become a technical specialist, a sponsored rider, or a professional competitor, STERIK'S coaches can help you reach your goals at any level. Unlike any other sports organization, STERIK’S coaches lead by example. We perform along side our team members and participate with every aspect of their daily learning experience. We pride ourselves in being able to show our team members the results of their desired goals first hand and provide insight on how to get there.
STERIK'S coaches do not dictate the progression path of our team members. Rather we encourage independent thinking and self-directed goal formation, by providing guidance and insight as requested to assist with the personal skill development goals the athletes have set for themselves. These skills will serve them well off the hill as well. Utilizing the natural challenges freestyle skiing and snowboarding presents, we instill key life lessons which enable our team members to not only succeed on snow, but in life.
STERIK’S does not regulate admission to the team based on technical or trick ability level. We believe that integrating beginner ability level athletes and expert ability level athletes into the same team is extremely motivating, given peer collaboration, encouragement, and a support system spanning across multiple ages. STERIK'S coaches facilitate interaction between the team members to work together and share knowledge. By doing so, our team members obtain well rounded skillsets, personal confidence, and a strong sense of self. We believe this builds future leaders.
STERIK'S recognizes the similarities of all freeski and snowboard disciplines and combines them into one holistic experience. Team members are introduced to a wide variety of freeski and snowboard terrain, techniques, and environments. This includes exposure to; terrain park, halfpipe, moguls, skier-cross/ boarder-cross, glades, icy steeps, and off-piste terrain. The program is open to male and female skiers and snowboarders within the ages 10-18. Team members learn the skills and techniques necessary to challenge their mental and physical capabilities, and conquer inhibitions in any environment. On or off snow.
STERIK'S facilitates a learning experience and culture free of judgment. Sessions are fast paced, hard work, fun and empowering and blend multi-disciplinary technical skill development with original freestyle abilities. Our coaches are industry certified, highly experienced, talented, and sponsored athletes who lead by example and participate with every aspect of our team members daily learning experience. Instruction is offered one-on-one and structured to the desired progression of our athletes.
STERIK'S feels that our collaborative way of coaching encourages development of strong self-confidence, self-awareness, personal drive, and self-discipline. By doing so, this ensures that our team members are entirely prepared to attempt new skills while being fully aware of their mental state, emotional state, and the risks involved. This reduces risk and builds self confidence.
STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team acts as a unit and our team members understand that individual success is collective success. As members of the STERIK'S Flow Crew, each team member knows that their actions reflect on the group as a whole. We work together, share knowledge, and push each other to reach our highest potential on and off the hill.
STERIK'S does not regulate admission to the team based on technical or trick ability level. However, STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team is not for the faint of heart. The program is hard work, fast paced, and extremely challenging. It requires a high level of self-responsibility, and self-discipline. As a prerequisite we simply require strong work ethic, grit, and determination. Team members are required to uphold the STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team Member responsibilities as outlined in the registration terms and conditions agreement. Our athletes must also demonstrate unfaltering commitment to their progression as athletes, individuals, and their membership in the STERIK'S community.
The program registration window opens September 1st. Program admission is determined by invitation only. Any athletes who have been officially invited to join the program are required to complete their registration prior to November 1st. To register, please contact us.
The first step for aspiring new team members is to complete the application process. The application includes a brief questionnaire and must be submitted prior to November 1st. New athletes will be notified of their successful admission and are required to complete their registration prior to November 15th. To apply, please contact us. New team member applications are welcome at any time.
For further details please find the team member application, terms and conditions agreement, health and safety program, and our waiver form below. As part of the team member registration process, a one-on-one communications meeting will be scheduled between STERIK'S, the team member, parents and any other interested family members. The purpose of this conference call is to open the door to clear communication, an understanding of the program, and to foster alignment of expectations amongst, coaches, athletes, and parents.
Team members are required to carry either an active Freeski Canada 1 & 2 athlete membership or a Snowboard Canada Basic athlete membership. This membership provides the athlete with general liability insurance. This insurance is mandatory for registration and provides the appropriate accident coverage when practicing skills such as inverted maneuvers. STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team is a mentorship program and community, both on and off the hill. The success of STERIK'S and the success of our athletes goes hand in hand. As such, our athletes participate in the business of STERIK'S, learning the skills of promotion, networking and brand commitment. STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team members are the grass roots representation of the STERIK'S brand - STERIK'S Flow Crew. Team members work to develop strong and reputable rider profiles, and learn the skills necessary to become effective industry brand representatives and ambassadors. Hooked up with STERIK'S exclusive team gear and apparel one year in advance of product line launching, team members learn the skills necessary to effectively promote, advertise and market themselves as well as STERIK'S products.
Throughout the season, team members will be selected either individually or in groups to work through promotional shoots with our resident photo and video producer. The focus and subject matter of these sessions will be laid out in advance. However, it is the team member's responsibility to act as the stars of the shoot, and provide personal contributions and flare. The content will later be used toward social media, print and website advertising.
The responsibility of STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team members extend far beyond wearing the gear and assisting with media promotion. Team members are required to attend and help out at industry trade shows, and actively assist with sales and promotion on the floor. In addition, they must positively engage with STERIK'S Freeride Showdown event series participants, followers and families and present a welcoming and encouraging attitude.

STERIK'S hosts two preseason get togethers each year. First is our skate park get together at the Collingwood Skate Park on October 20th. Second is our paintball get together at Barrie Paintball on November 17th. Our preseason get togethers are geared to provide a positive team building experience and to establish the STERIK'S atmosphere. It is important that our team members meet their peers to reconnect or establish new relationships prior to season start up.
In order for our team members to achieve and maintain the highest possible success rate, it is vital that the values of the STERIK'S community and Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team are fostered in the home environment. A parent meeting is scheduled each year, for October 20th at the Collingwood Public Library. While team members are supervised by a STERIK'S coach at the Collingwood Skate Park, parents/guardians and STERIK'S directors/head coach shall meet to review all on-snow aspects of STERIK'S Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Team, cover our health and safety protocols, and review the season's scheduled events. This is a great opportunity for parents to get together in support of their athletes as well as STERIK'S, and ask any questions related to our operations.
Each year STERIK'S organizes a parent carpool system in order to connect parents/families who may be in need of transportation support. Upon registration closing, notice will be sent out to all team members parents/guardians requesting their involvement with the carpool program. Contact information will then be added to the Parent Carpool Contact List and distributed to those who confirmed participation. It is the parents responsibility to then organize carpool accommodation throughout the season.
Parent and family member involvement with the STERIK'S Freeride Showdown Series is highly encouraged. We are always in need of volunteers to assist with event operations, and most importantly to keep our participants safe and event features supervised. Parents and family members are more than welcome to join in at our pre-season team building get togethers as well.
Throughout the duration of the season, all team members and parents receive weekly updates by email. Distributed every Wednesday, each update contains all information applicable to the upcoming camp, weekend, or event. Pre-season updates are distributed with information regarding the registration window, any deadlines, team member equipment orders, trade shows, and pre-season get togethers. Upon registration, parent/guardian email is automatically added to our mailing list. Please contact us if there are any additional email addresses to be included.
Please contact us if you have any questions. Team member applications are always welcome.
